About this tour

WHY GO?

The Dolomites offer some of the most spectacular and enjoyable hiking experiences in all of Europe. Nestled in northern Italy, this mountain range is unique in that it combines the best of two worlds. visually, it resembles Austria with its dramatic jagged peaks, lush green meadows, and charming alpine villages. However, it’s unmistakably Italian in its culture, cuisine, and spirit. So, while you’re surrounded by what looks like a scene from the Austrian Alps, you’re actually indulging in authentic Italian pasta, espresso, and of course, the unpredictable flair of Italian driving!

The beauty of hiking in the Dolomites lies not only in the dramatic landscapes but also in the variety and richness of the trails. The routes are world-renowned for their breathtaking scenery, challenging terrain, and unforgettable moments. Each trail tells its own story of geological wonder, alpine tradition, and natural magnificence.

In this journey, I will guide you through four of the most iconic and classic hiking routes in the region. These trails are not only celebrated for their beauty but also respected for the physical and mental challenge they present. While the hikes will certainly test our endurance at times, the rewards are beyond compare. Expect sweeping panoramic views, encounters with local wildlife, the calming sound of mountain streams, and moments of pure awe as the peaks tower above.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply someone who loves to be immersed in nature, the Dolomites have something deeply moving to offer. It’s not just about getting from point A to point B—it’s about experiencing one of Europe’s most captivating mountain landscapes in all its glory.

Highlights

  • 🏔️ Iconic Peaks and Dramatic Scenery
  • The Dolomites are famous for their jagged limestone spires, towering cliffs, and surreal rock formations that look like something out of a fantasy film. Every turn on the trail offers jaw-dropping views that will stay with you forever.
  • 🏞️ Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Three Peaks of Lavaredo)
  • Arguably the most iconic spot in the entire Dolomite range, Tre Cime is a must-see. The loop trail around the peaks offers stunning views, especially magical at sunrise or sunset when the rocks glow orange and pink. It's also one of the most photographed areas in the Alps.
  • 🛖 Rifugi (Mountain Huts)
  • These traditional alpine huts are scattered throughout the mountains and offer cozy shelter, warm homemade meals, and incredible views. Sitting outside a rifugio with a plate of pasta and a glass of wine while overlooking the peaks is an experience like no other. And yes, you’ll likely hear the soft clanging of cowbells echoing through the valleys — a charming soundtrack to your hike.
  • 🌄 Seceda Ridge
  • Famous for its dramatic drop-offs and sweeping views of the Odle Group, Seceda is a photographer’s dream. The contrast between the sharp cliffs and rolling meadows creates a striking and unforgettable landscape.
  • 🟦 Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee)
  • This emerald-blue alpine lake, surrounded by steep cliffs and dense forests, is one of the most beautiful and tranquil spots in the Dolomites. The easy loop around the lake is perfect for a relaxing walk, and it’s a favorite for photographers thanks to its mirror-like reflections.
  • 🧗 Rosengarten (Catinaccio)
  • Home to via ferrata (iron paths), Rosengarten offers a thrilling experience that blends hiking with light mountaineering. These fixed cable routes let you climb safely along dramatic rock faces — a uniquely Dolomitic adventure.
  • 🍝 Diverse Cultures and Cuisines
  • The Dolomites sit at the crossroads of Italian, Tyrolean, and Ladin cultures, making the region incredibly rich in tradition and food. Expect to enjoy hearty alpine dishes like speck (smoked ham), polenta, dumplings, apple strudel, and local wines. Each meal becomes part of the journey.

Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival in Venice

It is all about getting everyone together and then driving to Bruneck. We can stop on the way at Decathlon if anyone needs any last minute clothes or hiking gear. We will also be stopping to buy food and drinks for our first hike.

Day1: Rosengarten 11 km

We will be starting very early on the first day to reach our first hike in good time. This hike needs to be completed by 5 pm so we get the last cable car back down the mountain so we will be eating breakfast on the way. There will be places to eat half way through the hike and after the hardest parts are completed. On our drive back we will stop at a nice restaurant for our evening meal and also restock our food supply for the day 2 hike.

Day 2: Prägserwild See 12.5 km

We will start reasonably early again so we can get a good parking spot and start in good time. At the lake there are restaurants that serve good food and boats to be rented. Getting hikes like these done in good time is great because there is always something to do when they are finished.

Day 3: Swimming and relaxing

This is our “time out” day. What we do on this day is very much decided by how everyone feels and how long they want to drive for. We on our last trip had a great time swimming at Dürrensee and we also visited Toblacher See where there are restaurants. People can also stay in Bruneck to shop and relax.

Day 4: Seceda 15.4 km

The famous Seceda has become a hot spot for Instagram warriors. Its very picturesque and has the famous cliff you will find at the end of the hike. We take a very nice path to that point stopping on the way at a few Berghütten for refreshments. Its a steady hike and the end is all downhill.

Day 5: Tre Cime and Venice

Our last hike is the probably the most famous of the lot. Its a the 3 chimneys and you can see why. Its also mostly an easier hike to do compared to the others in many respects but it being our last hike im sure our legs might not agree with my opinion. We take our bags with us as we will be going straight to Venice after the hike. We get up early to get the hike finished in good time so we get to Venice not too late.

Day 6:Leaving Italy
